CUILAPAN

Its name in Nahuatl means dyed river or rattles over waters, it was formely called Coyolapan. It is located 12 kilometers from Oaxaca City on the Highway towards Zaachila, from which you can see the unfinished but marvellous religious complex, constructed by Dominicans in teh 16th century.

It consists of the ex-convent, a church and chapel with a basilica type floor plan. You can see also the remains of Martin Cortes country house, south of the Council Buildings. Same place has where prisioner and killed the General Vicente Guerrero.
